What Behind the Doors keeps

Checked October 8, 2026By the Threshold Desk

Behind the Doors keeps almost nothing about the people who read it. One small setting, the light or dark theme, stays in the reader's own browser tab and is not sent anywhere.

One setting, one tab

The only thing the site stores is the light or dark theme a reader picks. It is held in sessionStorage, a small space inside that one browser tab. Closing the tab clears it. Nothing about the choice leaves the browser, and other tabs do not share it.

Serving-now marks on the venue pages work differently. Kitchen and bar hours are kept as weekly time ranges in Edmonton time, and the reader's browser compares them with its own clock. That check runs on the reader's device, so nothing is stored and nothing is sent. Holiday hours are not covered and should be checked on the venue's own site.

What the site never asks for

There are no forms on Behind the Doors, so there is nowhere to type a name or an email address. The site has no accounts and no analytics. It is a guide, not a casino: it takes no bets and has no cashier, so no payment details pass through it.

Paid links appear only on the home page, marked Ad, and all lead to the same online casino partner. The site earns a commission from them, and the partner can change. A reader who follows one leaves this site for the partner's, which has its own privacy rules. Links to venues, regulators and help services are not paid.

Questions

Does Behind the Doors use cookies?

The site keeps one setting: the light or dark theme, held in sessionStorage in the open tab and cleared when that tab closes. There are no accounts and no analytics, and the theme choice is not sent anywhere.

Does the serving-now list know where I am?

It does not know where a reader is. The marks compare weekly kitchen and bar hours, kept in Edmonton time, with the clock in the reader's browser. Location plays no part in the check.
